JANMAC – Total clearance of 137 Poll Dorset rams to $4100, av $1131; and 33 White Suffolk rams to $1800, av $962.
The Hausler family achieved a total clearance of 170 Poll Dorset and White Suffolk rams at their 11th annual Janmac ram sale last Wednesday, with an overall $1107 average.
Janmac stud’s Grant and Bryce Hausler were extremely pleased to see six of their top Poll Dorset rams go to ram breeding operations or stud flocks.
Top among them was lot 5, Janmac 140179, selling for $4100 to Brian Kester, Appleton Park stud, Apsley. This was the fifth ram Brian has bought from Janmac over the years and he was impressed with this ram’s performance and muscling in combination with its correct balance and structure.
DS & SL Hobbs, Clear Lake, went to $4000 for lot 3, Janmac 140156, both these top rams being sons of Newbold 120065, the high performance ram used through AI. This ram and Kurralea 110011, the $28,000 Australian record priced Poll Dorset when purchased by Janmac and Ulandi Park in 2012, have had a big impact on the Janmac flock and proven to be a wise investments, going a long way in attracting stud breeders to the sale.
Of the flock ram buyers, six purchased 10 or more rams to put sustained strength in the bidding. Topping the volume buyer list was return buyer Leigh McGinty, Apsley, who purchased 15 Poll Dorsets to $1200, av $1087.
PR, ME&KP Donaldson, through Rodwells Edenhope purchased 13 Poll Dorsets to $1100, av $985.
Long term Janmac client Danny West, Westwood, Edenhope, purchased 12 rams (made up of eight Poll Dorsets and four White Suffolks) in the value $700 to $800 range.
Purchasing 10 Poll Dorset rams each were Damien Merrett and family, Glendonald, Apsley, paying to $1600, av $1390; the DiGiorgio family, Lucindale, South Australia, paying $1400, av $1090; and P&L Skinner, Ozenkadnook, paying to $900, av $870.
New client making a significant buying impact was Bale Farming, Kaniva. Damian Pearson, Westech Ag Kyle Livestock purchased eight rams for this account, four from each breed and paid to $1800 (for the top-priced White Suffolk), av $1425.
