Sidonia’s Avington Merino Stud’s inaugural on-property ram sale achieved a total clearance of the 32 superfine rams offered.
The catalogue included 16 Poll and 16 Horn rams, of which the top-price of $2400 was fetched by a heterozygous Poll tag number 130645, a son of Roseville Park 09-0014 – who has a high fleece weight with a silky soft wool and is listed on Merino Select as a trait leader.
Ken Hausler, Hawksdale, purchased the seller-topper, whose wool measured 16.1-micron and had a standard deviation (SD) of 2.8, a co-efficient of variation (CV) of 17.4 and a comfort factor (CF) of 99.9 per cent.
He commended vendors Noel and Lyndsay Henderson on the vast improvements they had achieved in the Poll Merinos.
“I liked that he had a strong constitution – he’s a good square ram,” Mr Hausler said of the two-year-old ram.
“And his wool is stylish and hopefully a heavy cutting fleece.”
Mr Hausler also bought lot 30 tag 130382, a Merryville MV 07-120 son, who was measured as having 14.9M, 3.2SD, 21.5CV, 99.7pc CF.
The sale achieved a strong average of $1053.13.
