BROAD Victorian, New South Wales and South Australian restocker inquiry underpinned a consistent demand for weaner steers and heifers at Warrnambool on Friday.
Offering 3830-head as part of the Western District's annual weaner sale series, prices for Angus and Charolais-cross steers traded mostly at the higher rates of 220-248c/kg while heifers made from 210c/kg and topped at 233c/kg.
Processor and lot-feeder competition also made a valuable contribution to the strong demand in a market where grass-finishers and backgrounders frequently outlasted the buying opposition especially on pens with weights exceeding 350kg, and up to 440kg.
