A shift to the first week of the holidays alongside a schedule clash with the Cowboys home final caused an expected drop in attendance during the iconic Ewan race meeting on the weekend.
Despite the downturn Ewan Turf Club president David Woodhouse said he was still happy with numbers.
“I was dreading that it might turn into a disaster, but the support we received from our sponsors, members and the general public was much better than I expected.
Spectators were treated to highly competitive action on the track and plenty of laughs and good times off it.
Goddess of Luck proved victorious in the Ewan Cup providing a big win for the ever-successful John Manzelmann who completed a trifecta in the main race with San Raymond placing second and May Nelly crossing the line in third place.
