SHEEP dipping contractor Josh Pumpa has dipped countless sheep and had lots of opportunities to think about improving the process.
The two-race mobile sheep dip that he built not only allowed him not to come in contact with the dipping chemical but also won the Inventions competition at Sheepvention on Monday.
The V-shaped races on the mobile dip are filled with water and the sheep walk through in single file, unable to turn around.
"It's as simple as walking them and shutting the gate," Mr Pumpa, Balmoral, said.
Having two races on his mobile rig meant that he could prepare one race while sheep were going through the other race. He has already used it on tens of thousands of sheep throughout Victoria in the past year.
"Instead of taking the sheep to water, I'm taking the water to the sheep," Mr Pumpa said.
He said he had help from Casterton engineer Rod Davidson in building the mobile sheep dip. Mr Davidson said it took 600 hours to construct the trailer.
He is investigating taking his mobile sheep dip into commercial production.
