The biggest loser is Kevin, because it's not about him at all Recap: Drama on and off court for Biggest Loser

Ten Network's reality series The Biggest Loser has been affected by a scandal that resulted in at least two contestants and their families being removed from the series.

After weeks of rumours of an inappropriate relationship on the set of the series, Ten today admitted "an event" occurred early in this season's production, involving "some contestants" which resulted in them being removed from the show.

It is believed none of the contestants seen on TV since the series premiered on March 17 was involved; the removal occurred before any episodes were screened.

"Very early in the process of putting together The Biggest Loser: The Next Generation, there was an event involving two contestants," read a brief statement from Ten.

"In line with our strict duty of care obligations, the incident was referred to the relevant authorities. Therefore, we cannot comment any further other than to say that contestants were unable to continue with the show."

It is believed planned segments of the series were rewritten to compensate for the missing families.

This is not the first time the series has had to be rewritten after a contestant was evicted.

Contestant Deryck James Ward left Biggest Loser Australia: Couples 2 in 2010 after he was charged with child pornography offences.

He was later sentenced to a maximum two years' jail.
