FIVE major lamb buyers have dug deep and paid the sum of $400 a head for a pen of 10 lambs at the Bendigo saleyards on Monday, with proceeds donated to Ronald McDonald House.
Elders auctioneer Nigel Starick, who organised the sale on behalf of an anonymous client, said the lambs were offered under the Lamb for Life banner.
"It is something that all connected with the Bendigo lamb market aim to conduct annually on the Monday before Easter," he said.
"If you haven't had to use Ronald McDonald House you probably know someone that has. It is a very worthy cause."
The five buyers to share the purchase cost of the 10 lambs were Coles Supermarkets, Thomas Foods International, Murray Bridge SA, JBS Swift, Brooklyn, Australian Lamb Company, Colac and Wagstaff of Cranbourne, while Elders sold the pen without charge.
