A SUPERIOR White Suffolk ewe defeated the feature breed showcase of 250 sheep at Sheepvention, Hamilton before being crowned supreme interbreed short wool ewe.
It capped off a stunning performance by Tim Jorgensen, Mertex, Antwerp, who established the White Suffolk arm of the family's stud just three years ago.
Judge Andrew Michael, Leachim, Snowtown, South Australia said the "faultless" ewe possessed commercial traits rams would be proud of.
This year marks the breed's 30th anniversary in Australian, which Mr Jorgensen said made the young stud's win sweeter.
"We work hard to breed good sheep so being rewarded so early in the stud's establishment is incredible," he said.
The 13month-old ewe is a daughter of champion sire, Wingamin 122714.
Mertex also won the supreme interbreed short wool group with a consistent, well-muscled line of Texels.
Supreme short wool ram was awarded to a 13month-old son of Nangana Star, exhibited by Deva Weitman, of Blue Rock, Romsey.
The title followed early success at last month's Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo where the ram took out grand champion suffolk.
Mornington Peninsula based Woodleigh High School made the record books after being awarded supreme interbreed long wool ewe - the first time a school exhibit has been awarded the competitive title.
The ewe, who had two well-grown lambs at foot, was sired by a school-bred ram and a Liberton Corrieldale ewe.
"This year we really worked hard at getting them into good condition," Woodleigh School head of AgHort Charlie Clarke said.
It was a fitting tribute to showing stalwarts and Liberton principals Jim and Brenda Venters, Stonehaven who will retire from showing this year.
The Venters were also sashed supreme interbreed long wool champion ram for an exceptional two year-old sire who was praised for his fleece coverage and large, sound structure.
"We're very, very grateful," Mr Venters said. "There is a sad side and a happy side to this end of an era for us.
"There will be no more early mornings in the shearing shed, preparing the show team and we are left with wonderful memories and friends from around the world."
The supreme long wool champion group was exhibited by Jeff Sutton, Wattle Farm Border Leicester stud, from Temora, NSW.
