Today it was the Suffolks’ turn on show at the elite, national show and sale in Bendigo.
It is only the second year that the Suffolks have joined the White Suffolks for the event, and despite numbers being down judge Anthony Hurst, Seriston White Suffolks, Lucindale, South Australia, said the quality was still outstanding.
Of the about 30 entries from 11 studs from Victoria, NSW and South Australia, Deppeler Suffolks of Derrinallum in the home State won the champion Suffolk ewe.
The July 2013-drop ewe sired by Deppeler Gemini weighed 95.5 kilogram and scanned 10 millimetres of fat and 39mm of muscle.
Reserve champion ewe was awarded to an August 2013-drop Closeup Poll Dorset & Suffolk Stud, Finley, NSW.
The champion Suffolk ram was awarded to Baringa Suffolk Stud of Oberon, NSW. The winning ram was a July 2013-drop that weighed 112.5kg and scanned 10mm fat and 44mm muscle. It is following the show success of its sire Timor Bolt that won the supreme Suffolk at Dubbo 2012 and 2013, and the champion Suffolk ram at the Royal Sydney Show in 2013.
Baringa’s Brayden Gilmore said it was exciting to be recognised with the win, especially since the stud was only established in 2012.
Reserve champion ram was won by 2. Aylesbury, Willaston, South Australia.
