A TASMANIAN stud dominated the competition in the ram judging at Bendigo on Saturday.
Chris Badcock, Fairbank, Hagley, Tas, admitted he was surprised by his stud's success at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show.
"I thought he was a pretty good ram, but you never know," he said.
It's only the second time at the iconic event for the stud, and Mr Badcock said the trip across Bass Strait had more than paid off.
Judge Dale Moore, Penrise, Campania, Tas, said the 90 kilogram ram was a "complete animal".
"He was the most overall, complete ram here today," he said.
The September 2014-drop ram had 47 millimetres of muscle, and came from an impressive pedigree too.
"His sire got supreme at the National Southdown Show two years ago," he said.
In the ewe judging, a Tatura stud came out on top.
The broad-ribbon was handed to the McCartney family's 12 month-old entry from their Yentrac Southdown Stud.
"She had great width and depth, and a good hindquarter," Mr Moore said.
"She will on onto to be fantastic dam."
The McCartney family run 150 Southdowns and brought eight head to Bendigo, as well as nine Poll Dorsets.
Seven studs competed in the breed judging.
