RETALLACK Border Leicester stud have made a hat-trick of supreme exhibit wins after securing the breed's top place at this year's Australian Sheep and Wool Show, for the third consecutive year.
The win backed-up a stellar run for an undefeated stud ram showcased by stud principals Isabella and Graham Grinter, Ariah Park, NSW, who has had a run of snagging the top titles at Sydney Royal Show and Canberra Show.
Retallack produced the champion ram over 1.5 years, which went on to win the supreme Border Leicester exhibit before being recognised as supreme Interbreed exhibit the following day.
"He is one of the most unusual rams I have bred in my lifetime – he has a big ego and is not the easiest to take are the country," Mr Grinter said.
"But people cannot believe the amount of wool on him."
Judge Neil Johnson, Keith, South Australia, praised the rising two-year -old ram's presence, saying he stood up well for his age and had a beautiful fleece.
The September-2013 drop ram was a son of powerful stud sire High Tensile and recorded maternal estimated breeding values of 5.1kilgorams weaning weight, 9.8kg 10-month weight, 9 millimetres fat and 41mm muscle.
He won supreme long wool ram at Royal Canberra Show before going on to take-out champion supreme ram at Sydney Royal Easter Show and a string of regional shows.
He pipped champion junior ram, exhibited by Bindaree Border Leicester Stud, at the post for the title.
The young self-bred Bindaree ram weighed 104.5kg, 11mm fat and 38mm muscle, and was commended for his style, muscling in "all the right places" and correctness.
In the female section, a young "beautifully presented, well balanced ewe with stunning fleece" ewe exhibited by Jamie Buerckner, Bauer stud, Ariah Park, won the junior champion ewe.
While the reserve junior champion was sashed to a "well put together" Retallack ewe.
Bindaree's win continued in the female classes with a beautifully paraded rising two year-old ewe taking out the champion ewe against a "balanced" Retallack ewe.
With a sash in every class they were entered in, it was no surprise Retallack took home the most successful exhibitor award.
Young up and comer Will Schilling's stud, Glenlee Park, Nhill was praised for capturing the judges eye all day with his quality line of sheep and was awarded Best Novice Sheep win.
