GLENPAEN ram ‘Hazza’ has won Victorian-bred Ram of the Year, continuing his success from earlier in the year.
The Brimpaen stud’s ram climbed through the classes to be crowned grand champion fine wool ram, but was narrowly beaten by a Grathlyn ram in the supreme judging.
Stud principal Rod Miller was thrilled with the accolade.
Hazza was sired by Nerstane 910 via arti?cial insemination, the ram was one of a triplet and mothered by a top-performing ewe at the stud, Mr Miller said.
Mr Miller’s son Harry had picked the ram out from an early age and had taken the reins along with brother Will to look after him.
The 17.7-micron four-tooth ram was the supreme exhibit at the Campbell Town show, but was pipped by another Glenpaen ram at Balmoral Show.
His fleece tested as having a standard deviation of 2.3, coefficient of variation of 13.0, comfort factor of 99.9 and curvature of 16.2.
Judges praised the ram for his broad frame and dense coverage of high-quality, long-stapled fleece.
Oakbank were reserve in the Victorian Ram of the Year honours with their two-year-old 20.4M ram that had climbed up from the open August-shorn medium wool class.
Stud principal Warren McRae said the 154 kilogram ram went back to East Mundulla 544.8, and will be offered at the sale on Monday.
