A heated bidding war between a South Australian buyer and Chinese representative Carpenter International over yearling bull Paringa Judd pushed prices to $36,000 at Lawsons Angus' on-farm production sale at Glenburn on Friday.
The stud totally cleared 230 bulls at an average $5358, while females av $2397.
The second highest-priced bull at $35,000 was 18-month-old Lawson Incredible HA03, a son of Ayrvale Bartel, bought also by Carpenter International.
Carpenter International bought five bulls at the sale, av $22,900, which will go into quarantine before their semen is extracted and exported to China.
The China order is for major feedlot operator Kingbull Livestock.
Ayrvale Bartel was also the sire of one of the highest priced females Lawsons Bartel E7 H108 at $5000, while another female Lawsons Ambassador J1227 sold at $5000.
