AN exceptional sale occurred at Yea Friday morning with numerous feedlot and backgrounding orders dominating both the steer and heifer sections of the sale.
Yea agents offered just over 2000 head and the strong competition pushed yearling steers prices to $1400.
Most of the steers offered were 7-14 months, and most sold from $730-$1000 with 16 month steers to $1340.
Competition came from South Australia, central NSW and Gippsland, along with buyers from many local and surrounding districts.
However feedlot buyers and backgrounders were by far the largest purchasers.
A good yarding of heifers also sold to very strong feedlot demand with backgrounders strongly supporting the sale for lighter weight and younger heifers.
The top price was $1110 for two pens of Angus heifers purchased by Thomas Foods International, who played a big part in all sectors of the sale.
Most of the young heifers sold from $720-$870 with agents quoting heifers easily $100 dearer.
Young steers were also up to $100 dearer, while most of the older steers were $30-$70 dearer.
