YEA agents held the first of their weaner sales today, with quality cattle helping to create a solid outcome.
About 1758 steers and heifers went under the hammer, with local and district producers competing against Thomas Food International for the heavier end of the steers (all being six to nine months of age).
Strong competition saw most steers sell from $620-$795 a head, for an estimated 205-235c/kg lwt.
Some of the demand was from Livestock Shipping Services, WA, who were buying up for their live shipping order to Russia - paying from $620-$710.
Competition for heifers was also good, and agents said they were happy with the results.
The best heifers made to $660, most $540-$660. Younger heifers sold from $350-$485.
