THERE was a very good yarding of both steers and heifers at Yea store sale on Friday, where 2700 head were offered to a large crowd in attendance.
Of particular note was the larger yarding of heifers, and the age at mainly 10-16 months-old.
Most heifers sold from $450-$655, with the top price of $755 going to 14 Charolais heifers, by Mt William bulls, from Provitaculture, Yarra Valley.
Strong competition came from Robert Woodward, who bought heifers to kill, feed and background.
He bought more than 50pc of the yarding.
Liveweight heifer prices were mostly 160-180c/kg.
In the steer section, about six pens of heavy yearling steers sold from $790 to the sale top of $940, which went to 14 Angus-crosses, 16-18 months-old, from R May, Yarck.
J&R Walsh, also from Yarck, sold 22 Coonamara-bld Angus steers, 10-12mo, to $830, av $755, while Oakdale Pastoral Company, Tallarook, sold 48 Charolais-cross steers, 7-12mo, to $725, av $653.
Most steers made from $520-$690, with liveweight prices from 190-215c/kg, up to 230c/kg for lighter weights.
