DEMAND was buoyant and competition free-wheeled for the much larger than anticipated 4100 head at NLVX Barnawartha end-of-financial year sale on Thursday.
A huge number of feedlot orders, stretched from northern NSW to South Australia, were actively engaged throughout the Corcoran Parker- Elders-Landmark sale which offered large numbers of spring-drop weaners - cattle normally retained through the winter months and sold in the spring.
The demand for steers was extremely intense due to the absence of adequate numbers of heavier grown cattle which resulted in several feeder orders push down in the weights to secure numbers.
Steers of all weights were sold mostly in the 275-310cents per kilogram live weight price bracket, with a sale high of 315c/kg lwt.
This forceful inquiry resulted in the large majority of the steer sales realizing $800- $1200 a head while pens of younger lighter steer weighed between 200-280kg made $550 to $820 a head.
The market for unjoined heifers was equally as fierce resulting in a rate of 240-280c/kg lwt being set, with one outstanding sale of EU-accredited heifers, 341kg, priced at 300c/kg lwt or $1020 a head.
Better lines of feeder heifer mostly made $700-$950 while young heifers made from $500- $650.
