Young cattle were buy-able at the Wodonga store cattle market last Thursday despite the region approaching a crossroad in the season.
Spurred on by the higher prices in recent trade and export cattle markets, local valley restockers maintained pressure on persistent feeder inquiry holding prices firm on recent store market rates.
Most of the steer lines were presented in forward store condition which was an added bonus for buyers seeking a quick turn-over result.
Steers weighing to 500kg made to a top of $985 a head while steers 360-450kg made $735 to $910 and averaged 205c/kg lwt.
Weaner steers which saw most approaching 10-12 months of age made $650 to $762 a head as most realized 205- 215c/kg lwt.
Heifers attracted broad inquiry and made $520-$670 or 165- 175-c/kg lwt however most were purchased to feed-on by Riverina and Victoria domestic feedlot operators.
The yarding comprised 1960 head however the display of cows, with calves at foot and joined females was most disappointing.
