WEERAN Angus achieved a solid result at its 25th annual autumn bull sale this week, clearing 51 of 68 bulls to $8000.
The sale at Weerangourt, near Macarthur, was full of 36 registered buyers from South Australia and Victoria, who helped to push the average to $4570.
Weeran Jaden J450, at lot 9, was the highest-priced bull on the day, selling on a bid of $8000 to the Lewis Family, Hawkesdale.
The 17-month-old bull was by Barwidgee Jay W and out of a Weeran Boomerang cow and weighed 716kg, with a scrotal measurement of 41cm.
He had estimated breeding values of +4.6 for birth weight, +44 for 200-day weight, +90 for 400-day weight, +112 for 600-day weight and +1.2 for intramuscular fat.
"I believe this bull had the best traits," buyer Paul Lewis said.
"I bought this bull for his softness and good figures; with his moderate birth weight for heifers and for his great eye appeal."
Mr Lewis has been buying bulls from Weeran for the past four years.
"They do the job year-in year-out. So I come back to buy more," he added.
He also secured three other lots for an average $4000.
The McCabe family and Wentworth Close also secured a total of four bulls each.
There were 16 bulls that sold on the day for more than $5000.
Alec Moore, Weeran Angus, said he was pleased with the product they offered at the sale.
"Our average was up $1000 on last year's sale which is a positive".
"Many repeat buyers were back to support us, and we love their loyalty every year."
Mr Moore considered Weeran Joel J13, at lot 13, one of the best bulls that Weeran had bred. They passed him in at $11,000 as their reserve was $12,000.
The bull will be held for in-herd use.
Auctioneer Brian Leslie, of DLS, said the quality line-up of bulls was very even.
"With their average being up $1000 on last year's (result), it is a testament to their hard work and dedication," Mr Leslie said.
