In an exceptional sale, yearling steers sold to $1245, with a consignment of 105 Hereford steers, 20-21 months, from McKoy & Son Pastoral Co, “Ohio”, Holbrook, making from $915-$1245, to average $1099 or 238 cents per kilogram liveweight.
G&S Bawden, “Kilchamaig”, Mountain Creek, Holbrook, sold 96 yearling Shorthorn steers $750-$1110, av $946, or 244c/kg lwt.
The prices achieved for these two larger consignments at the start of the sale really set the pace.
From here on it was only up and up with weaned steers selling to a top of $1105 and most were over $800.
The liveweight prices equated mostly from 230-275c with a couple of sales to 294c/kg lwt.
Most of the steers were 2014 drop calves of Hereford and mixed breeds including European crosses. Normally this sale can be cheaper than the all Angus sales of the previous week, but as the fat cattle prices continue to rise, so does the weaner sale prices.
Most steers sold from $790-$995 with two sales over $1000.
It took some very light and at times, poor condition steers to sell below $750, and only a few sales ranged from $560-$750.
Liveweight prices were still in the 250c/kg range.
Yearling Hereford and Shorthorn heifers from Willandra Merino Stud, Jerilderie, sold from $765-$930, and liveweight prices equalled 220-227c/kg. G&S Bawden sold 106 Angus-Shorthorn heifers to $970, or 207-235c/kg.
Again here, this put a big floor in the sale with most weaned heifers making from $670-$930, or 220-245c/g lwt.
The total yarding was 3398 under selling agents Elders, Corcoran Parker and Landmark.
