The trend of strong prices continued today at Yea’s Upper Goulburn Rivers Classic annual weaner sale, with the top pen of steers fetching $1045.
Beef industry heavy weight Robert Woodward, Swan Hill, awarded the pen of 20 Angus steers, consigned by Les and Marg Bennett, Woodend, the best of the sale before it went under the hammer to spirited competition and was knocked down to Teys Feedlot.

Landmark auctioneer Terry Ginnane said it was a strong sale across the “fantastic” 3392-strong yarding. He estimated most steers made priced equivalent to 230 to 250 cents a kilogram.
“It was a strong sale today, especially for steers. Heifers sold OK, but there weren’t any extreme sales in the heifers,” Mr Ginnane said.
“I saw some better sales for heifers in the Western District, but steers were dearer here and are following the trend of prices going up since the weaner sales started.
“Most heifers went to be fattened or in feedlots, and not a lot of them were bought to go back to the paddock to be joined.”
He estimated Angus heifers sold at prices equivalent to 200-220c/kg and Hereford heifers 180-200c/kg.
It was a great day for the Bennett family, who also had the top-priced heifers of the sae for a pen of 20 Angus heifers that sold to Rodwells Euroa.
