YOUNG first cross ewes have again met solid demand at annual crossbred sales, with a sale high $210 a head paid at Bendigo on Friday.
However with the season back-peddling rapidly and prime lamb breeders cautious of their pasture needs for the autumn - opportunities emerged through the sale of ewe lambs, which were $20 a head off the pace of 10 days ago.
On the day, rising 1.5 year-old young ewes generally made $165-$188 a head, topping at $210 while several pens of one-year-old ewes sold down to $144.
The 2014-drop ewe lambs, suitable for joining by February/March, made from $125, to a top of $176 a head while pens of restocker ewe lambs, which held firmer values, made $90-$120.
