FEATURE lines of both steers and heifers created strong competition at the FOB Livestock store market at Sale on Friday.
The competition came mostly from the broader regions of Gippsland, and complimented by a feedlot buyer, and a couple of processor orders.
To year old steers filled the first couple of pens, and these sold to steady demand.
BT&KM Mackin, Dutson, sold 14 Hereford steers to $990, to average $947, and W Waite, Glengarry, 12 Angus steers for $890.
Spring has been kind to the Gippsland and most of the steers were in good condition.
Competition was very strong for the feature draft of BJ&LE Nuemann, Perry Bridge. Their 99 yearling Angus steers, Pinora & Kunuma blood, sold to $906, av $853. These steers, 14-16 month, were in very good condition and sold to several buyers.
Holleywoods Pastoral Co Pty Ltd, Giffard, offered 59 yearling Angus steers, which sold between $775-$850.
Most of these, and the earlier steers were purchased by South Gippsland bullock fatteners, with the last pen bought for grain feeding.
While the majority of the steers penned were Angus, Hopfields, Dutson, sold 36 Shorthorn steers of good growth and condition, which sold to $780, av $756.
The majority of the younger steers sold between $570-$695, and all of these prices were very good for the quality and weight of the steers.
P&D Jackson, Clydebank, sold 21 Angus steers for $695, and L&D Cameron, Valencia Creek, 24 Angus steers to $650, av $611.
LA Morgan, Nambrok, offered a tidy pen of 22 Angus steers of lighter weight that made $570.
Over recent months, producers have offered only limited numbers of heifers at Sale.
However, this sale was different with heifers being 30 per cent of the total yarding.
Most of these heifers were in forward store to fat condition, and sold to a feedlot, and fatteners from Gippsland.
R Costello, Boisdale, sold 4 yearling heifers for the top price of $785 with the few heavier yearlings from $625 to the top price.
