Local vendors produced a top yarding of 950 well-bred steers and heifers at Costello Rural’s annual Upper Murray feature sale last Friday at Corryong.
All cattle presented in forward condition. With more than 400 Angus and Angus cross steers, competition from beef finishers, feedlots and exporters, prices was strong on all weight ranges, according to Justin Costello.
Feature lines included those from local HC Auchinleck, who sold Angus Steers to a top of $835 and G&C Galbraith to a top of $785.
JH Nankervis sold Hereford weaners to a top of $800, and Mr Costello said the draft showed great breeding and the composition was strong on all Hereford calves.
A feature sale of Murray Greys saw a top of $795 being paid for steers in annual draft from NL&MR Clydsdale. Heifer prices topped at $600 and a strong average was achieved thanks to the House brothers of Forest in Tasmania purchasing 68 Murray Grey weaner heifers, 7-9 months, av $521.
Heifers averaging 180 cents per kilogram for the majority purchased, Mr Costello said.
The highest priced bull at the sale was Thologolong Wodonga, purchased by Shell-Dee Murray Grey Stud of Kingaroy, Queensland for $4000.
