PRICES held firm for grown steers and heifers and continued strong for young stock at Friday's Bairnsdale store cattle sale.
A lot of stock were penned out of the mountains and from Orbost and Sale districts.
The condition of cattle on offer was very good, with only cows in poor condition.
Julie Dennison, Omeo, sold two year-old Angus steers, born on Buchan Station, to a top of $1220.
M&M Wickfeldt, Bairnsdale, sent in 18 month-old Angus steers that sold to $1060.
Michelle Murphy out of Swifts Creek sold a line of Hereford steers, 14-16mo, to $1040.
Allan Brown, Orbost, with a pen of eight Angus steers, 15-16mo, returned $970 each.
Don Shaw, also from Swifts Creek, sold a line of Hereford steers, 14-16mo, to $900.
Simon Hunt, Briagolong, sent in 19 Angus steer weaners, 10-11mo, by Hazeldean bulls, that returned $885 each.
Mick Whelan, Waiwera, sold yearling Charolais steers for $800/hd.
R&J Farley, Orbost, sold a pen of mixed red and black 10mo steers, to a top of $930.
Ray Carey, Ensay, received $870 for two Hereford heifers, 18mo.
Daryl Gallagher, Swifts Creek, also received a top of $870 for a pen of 18mo Hereford heifers.
Len Love, Cassilis, sent in a line of Hereford heifers, 15mo, nearly ready to join, that sold to $685.
Cows and calves topped $1300, with a black baldy pair from Colin Guest.
