GROWN cattle continued to sell well at Bairnsdale, where 1257 cattle were yarded on Friday.
While the price per head eased slightly, the price per kilogram was well down on recent months, with stock already showing the effects of the cold winter in East Gippsland.
Colin Scott & Co, Hinnomunjie, sold Angus steers at $1480 a head and Hereford steers to $1360.
J Geehman sent in five Hereford steers, 574 kilograms, two-year-old, that realised $1480, or 258 cents/kg.
Six Angus steers, 518kg, account SAJ&PM Bowden, made $1350 or 261c/kg.

Among the weaner steers, Christa Treasure's pen of eight Herefords, 389kg, 10 months-old, realised $880 or 226c/kg.
Holston Pastoral Co, Tinamba, sold a line of 70 six-seven-month-old steers, including Charolais to $1100, Angus to $910, and black baldies at $720.
Their 15 yearling heifers made to $956 and 16 Charolais heifers made $730. Company manager, Stewart Moroney, was at the sale with his station managers and said he was pleased with the prices on Friday.
It was the first sale of their young cattle since the company expanded into East Gippsland.
