Steer feeder buyers claimed all but a handful of pens that sold above $850 a head at last week's annual Myrtleford weaner sales.
On Friday, a combined 2700 head was cleared in two yardings.
In the morning sale of 2000 conducted by the Paul & Scollard agency, an excellent display of 12-14 month-old Angus and Angus-cross steers made $830 to a best of $1075 while lighter and younger steers made upwards of $680 a head.
With no displayed weight to assist calculations the heavier run of steers were estimated to average 245-260c/kg lwt while the lighter and younger drafts made 260c to almost 300c/kg lwt.
Pen lots of heifers at this sale made $600-$885 with the heavier pens realising 205-225c/kg lwt and the lighter 215-250c/kg lwt.
In the afternoon sale conducted by Elders, a handful of pens were offered displaying an advisory weight.
Heaviest pens weighed at 494kg made to the day’s high of $1130 a head while steer pens lighter than 300kg made $600- $800 a head with the majority of these, as in the morning sale purchased by a strong and keen following local northeast restockers.
