A STRONG local focus assisted in a solid result at the Leongatha store sale yesterday.
Included in the 2593-head yarding were several annual drafts of weaned Angus and Hereford steers and heifers from the Yarram district.
PN&DM Moore sold 100 Angus and Angus-Hereford steers $765-$990, and D&B Kallady, 62 Angus steers $650-$1010.
Selling to repeat buyers, these Angus steers fared well, but very strong competition for Hereford steers, principally Karoonda, and Mawarra bloodlines, sold exceptionally well.
G&L Simmons, Woodside, sold 58 Hereford steers to $922, av $812, and the equivalent live weight prices were 264-275c/kg.
Other annual drafts of Hereford steers came from D&K Belcher, 60 steers $780-$905, and Stuart Investments, 42 steers, $720-$925, or 258-271c/kg.
The balance of the sale sold to strong demand, crossbred steers to 231c/kg, and most Angus steers to 265c/kg.
Top of the sale was 31 Angus steers (467kg) from J&S Kelly, Korumburra South, which sold to $1190, or 254c/kg.
