INCREASED competition and demand from interstate drove Angus steer prices 6-8 cents higher on Day 2 of Hamilton weaner sales today.
Offering a smaller than advertised yarding of 1600 head, prices at the Elders-Landmark sales ranged mostly 215-236 cents a kilogram to return cow/calf operators prices of $140-$150 a head better than 12 months ago.
Fuelling the stronger demand was the inclusion of further interstate competition from feeders and restockers from the northern parts of NSW and southern and central Qld.
Cattle purchased from the sale were trucked to Moree, Blayney, Walcha and Roma and Condamine while Gippsland bullock finishers remained focused grabbing their share of the reduced supply which has left pundits pondering future supply/demand against a hugely promising weather pattern looming later in the week.
