YEA agents offered a larger and good quality offering of store cattle today, with competition coming from feedlots, locals and Gippsland buyers.
The offering included some very good drafts of steers and heifers.
Although the pastures are drying off rapidly, the condition of the cattle was excellent.
With Gippsland continuing to have a very good spring, more buyers came from South and West Gippsland with several making purchases.
Buyers looking for lines of breeders steers and heifers came to Yea with confidence and paid to a top of $910 for steers, and $730 for heifers.
Most steers sold between $560 and $885 with a pen of Angus steers (12 months) making the higher price.
A small number of pens of older steers sold from $760-$910, or an estimated 190-210 cents a kilogram liveweight.
Younger steers sold very well, especially younger and lighter weight steers.
These were estimated to reach 230c/kg lwt.
A very good line up of heifers sold mostly from $450-$730 with processors, feedlots and producers all having a dip.
Agents quoted heifers anywhere from $30-$100 dearer.
