A THIRD successive day of 40-degree heat had no ill-effect on Hamilton weaner results as the final 1465 heifers went under the hammer on January 16.
Buyer support again came mostly from south-west of Victoria, South Australia and Gippsland, while competition from major feedlots dwindled.
The highlight sale saw the Doug Robertson’s Nangana Banquet-blood Angus heifers, 340kg, sell to 210 cents a kilogram or $714 a head.
Repeat buyer Nampara Pastoral of Penola secured 40 head from the line while the Craig family’s Inverell Herefords, 308kg, Yarram Park-blood made 186c/kg liveweight ($572).
These were purchased by Elders Holbrook while a feature sale of Innisfail Limousin heifers, 255kg made 190c or $484 a head.
Once off these speciality sales prices mostly resumed a trading range of 155-170c/kg lwt, but with a number of sales also higher.
Heavier weights of all heifers, 280-360kg, made $425- $714, av 169c/kg, while lighter 240-280kg heifers made $385-$484, av 164c/kg.
