Restocker orders from northern NSW, South Australia and northern Victoria completed against steady feeder inquiry at the Hay, NSW spring cattle on Wednesday, where 2860 head were penned.
And with the majority of the yarding reflecting the tough grazing across the Riverina region and beyond prices shelled out for steers met prior expectations while the market for heifers surprised and was fully up to the mark of most recent store cattle sales.
The yarding of steers was mostly sold at prices between $550-$750, as the best made to $840 a head.
These were a yard of Hereford Angus –cross sold by the Watkins family “Wakefield” Mossgiel, NSW while the market’s largest vendor Raymond Henwood “Yammatree” Bethanga, NSW sold 1300 Angus steers to $650 a head including a draft of 357 sold on one hammer at $550 to a Coonamble, NSW restocker.
The display of heifers, which were more forward in condition than their steer brothers, met broad inquiry with feeders taking particular interest.
Heifers in store condition were mostly sold in the $480-$580 price bracket while those more advanced in condition and heavier made $640 to a best of $740.
