Overall prices for steer weaners edged slightly higher on day four of the Hamilton weaner series yesterday (Thursday).
Elders and Landmark offered a small penning of 1450 Hereford, Shorthorn and Euro-cross.
Prices for whitefaced steers topped at 208c/kg lwt, while Limousin steers peaked at 216 cents a kilogram.
The top Limousin pen, 22 at 280kg, were sold by Innisfail, Nareen, to Rodwells Pakenham, who also bought the next highest-priced pen from Glanleam, Nareen, 38 Limousin calves at 297kg.
The top priced Herefords at 208c/kg - 57 at 365kg - were sold by the McClure family, Beerik, Coleraine, to volume buyer Paul Mason, Wellington, who also bought 102 EU-accredited Herefords, 363kg, from John and Liz Craig, Inveraell, Casterton, at 205c/kg and 29 Mt Widderin Hereford steers, 385kg, for 202c/kg.
The Mt Widderin lot was judged best presented pen on the day.
The Elders and Landmark sale was underpinned by local support although Gippsland and interstate inquiry remained active.
