EXPECTATIONS were high prior to the Euroa store cattle sale last Friday, a good crowd was building and there were several B-double trucks already in the carpark before the sale.
Producers were certainly justified in their hope of a good sale, with competition from Coonamble, Wodonga, feedlots and numerous local district orders, combined to create the very strong results.
Best & Crowley, Bylands, sold 31 Angus steers, 0-2 teeth, to $920 to average $879, with the first pen equalling 190 cents per kilogram liveweight, the second 200c/kg.
From there on steers 320kg lwt and over sold from $630-$800, and all were 200-220c/kg lwt.
A Leith, Benalla, offered 17 TeMania-blood Angus steers, which made $800, and N&S Brown, Benalla, sold 13 Angus steers, Welcome Swallow and TeMania-blds, for $795.
Because of the very dry and harsh summer and early autumn, most of the steers penned were in store condition and were of light weight.
Steers weighing, or estimated to weigh 200-290kg lwt sold between $475-$625, and while most sales equated to 210-235c/kg, there were some as high as 260c/kg lwt for the young lightweight calves.
A Goodfellow, Broadford, sold 27 Angus steers to $720, av $610, and Jim Curtis, Kilmore, 17 Angus steers at $600.
The sale of the day was the 142 Angus steers, Rennylea bld, of Inglebar Woolpress, Badaginnie, which were small and in store condition, and estimated to weigh 210-290kg. These sold to $625, av $581.
