STEER prices topped at $1080 a head at the Euroa weaner sale on Friday, with most of the cattle tipping the scales at heavier weights than last year.
Newmarket-Rodwell and Landmark offered 2433 head all up.
This annual sale always attracts a good crowd, and this year buyers included feedlots, processors and producers.
Also present was Simon Green for Livestock Shipping Services, Western Australia. Mr Green purchased about 400 light to medium weight Angus steers.
A favourable good season in Euroa and surrounding districts saw most of the cattle in prime condition, and up to 40 kilograms live-weight heavier than 2103.
This aided some very good prices with yearling steers selling from $860-$1080.
Most of the steers were weaned steers 7-9 months, weighing to a top of 444kg lwt. Prices ranged from $730-$875, or the equivalent of 202-220c/kg lwt.
Younger steers sold to very strong competition aided by the LSS order.
Many sold between $620-$730, or 220-245c/kg lwt.
