MONARO Livestock & Property (MLP), Cooma, NSW, offered their second and the last calf sale of the Monaro high plains for 2015 yesterday to a smaller but very enthusiastic crowd.
The enthusiasm was created by a spike in fat cattle prices leading up to this sale. Prices at Cooma were $60-$100 dearer, measured against the previous sales here at Cooma.
Casuarina Pastoral Co sold nine yearling Angus steers for $1200 to top this sale with the small number of older steers selling from $970 to the top price. Some of the steers had displayed weights, which indicated prices from 242-267 cents per kilogram liveweight.
The balance of the steers was 2014 drop calves with a larger percentage being 4-6 months. Steers 6-11 months sold from $750-$970 with the younger calves between $430-$770. Liveweight prices for the older calves were estimated to be mostly from 260-285c, and the younger calves 265-317c/kg lwt.
Most heifers sold very well with the older heifers selling from $720-$910, and younger heifers mostly $400-$685. Again some weights were displayed, and liveweight prices equalled mostly 235-260c/kg.
