STORE cattle prices sold above expectations at Wodonga earlier today, where 2224 head went under the hammer.
The offering included a large line of steers, including heavier yearlings, and a limited number of heifers.
Feedlots were active on the heavier end of the steers, 380 kilograms-plus, while restockers bid on the balance of the yarding.
Prices in the steer sale ranged from 195 to 205 cents a kilogram.
Volume vendor, W&M Thorley, Rushworth, cleared 384 predominantly Angus steers (with a few pens of Charolais-cross), 18-20 months, from $655 a head to the sale top of $930.
Their agent Brendan Jacobson, of Ray White Schubert & Boers, was happy with the price.
Most were purchased by two NSW-based feedlot companies.
Widgiewa Station, Morundah, NSW, was another key vendor, selling 297 Angus steer calves from $540-$754, at an estimated average $720.
This line was indicative of the sale, returning a liveweight price of 216-228c/kg.
Although there weren’t many heifers penned, most made $520-$670.
Bibbaringa, Bowna, NSW, sold 178 Angus heifers, 10-12 months, from $440-$560, av $538.
Strong demand ensued in cows and calf line-up.
Brembed Station, Narrandera, NSW, sold 59 Angus cows, Hazeldean- and Tuwharetoa-blood, with six month-old calves at foot, to $1420.
