RECENT rain in Western Victoria coupled with firming store market prices resulted in an animated bidding audience at the Colac Store Sale which saw the entire first-run of 84 cattle sold to $1015.
The 1460 yarding attracted major buyers including livestock buyer Mick Kemp, Garrison and Hells Gate Feedlot, Landmark, Leongatha Terry Ginnane, Rodwells Leongatha Damien Minogue and Hardwicks buyer Tony Monkivitch.
Grown steers averaged 191cents per kilogram while lighter calves 14-15 months-old up to 220c/kg, according to Charles Stewart auctioneer Jamie McConachy.
“It remained at that consistent level all the way through with the heifer calves making 180-200c/kg,” Mr McConachy said.
He attributed the buoyed market on “luck and market conditions” as the sale fell weeks after western Victoria’s recent rain and coincided with a firming fat market, which he said “created one hell of a sale”.
“We are very, very happy with today’s results that had the biggest crowd we have had for over six months,” he said.
“There were so many substantial buyers to start with which really helped and it also coincided with the fat-cattle job kicking this week which created a very dear sale.
“It was a really good sale because it was the first store sale since the new roof has been complete and it was a beauty.”
