THE final weaner sale in the west for the week was conducted by Elders at Casterton today (Friday), offering 1950 calves, mainly Hereford and Angus steers.
Prices peaked at 200c/kg for pen of 24 EU-accredited Hereford calves, 329kg, from Shallum, Casterton, which sold to Warrnambool agent Rodwells SKB.
The market generally traded off the rates of previous Hereford and Angus sales, by 5-10c/kg.
Buying competition did not have the depth of previous sales this week and the presence of Gippsland competition was much thinner on the ground.
Local inquiry remained solid and underpinned the markets and principal feedlot support was offered by Thomas Foods International, with back up support from Hopkins River Beef.
The top Angus steers at 189c/kg were a pen of 30 at 342kg from The Gums sold to Warrnambool Rodwells SKB.
