BUTCHER, feedlot, processor, and Gippsland bullock finisher competition was eager at Ballarat’s annual grown and weaner steer sale, without breaking records.
Prices achieved for a truly magnificent quality yarding ranged from $850-$1360 a head for grown steers, and $700-$960 for autumn-drop steer weaners.
Sales across the board were calculated mostly at 220-240 cents a kilogram for the heavier cattle, and 220-270c/kg for the weaner cattle.
Northern orders were placed from Wagga Wagga, Wodonga and Corryong.
However local and western support was negligible.
The yarding comprised of 4530 head – 200 short of the advertised number, while the sale was completed within three hours of the opening pen being sold.
