DESPITE the big dry in northern NSW, Rangan Charolais managed to elevate its clearance and average at its bull sale at Charleroi.
A sizeable crowd travelled to the North East sale, where a strong contingent of local producers operated strongly throughout the catalogue.
However, it was Ballangeich producers Robert and Margaret Patterson, Drysdale, who took top honours of the day, paying $7500 for a son of LT Bridger 9191 and Palgrove Show Girl 6.
The 20-month-old Rangan Park Bridger H65 had a 400-day weight of +49 and eye muscle area of +2.7.
Mr Patterson, who had also bought a Rangan bull the previous year, said the physical attributes including soft skin, smooth muscle and overall size, won him over.
"As we walked into the yard, he just appealed to us," Mrs Patterson said.
The Pattersons also purchased another sought-after polled bull Rangan Park RAN F21E H127 for $5000.
He was a son of Rangan Park Pinay and Rangan Park Nanette and also had LT Rio Bravo and Palgrove Tribute pedigree.
Lot 9 also attracted heady competition, with buyer Peter Wallace pushed to $6000 for Rangan Park Doc Silver H52.
This year was the inaugural open cry auction at Rangan Park, which had previously been running on the Helmsman system.
