THE Leongatha prime sale is set to be inundated tomorrow, thanks to rising bullock prices over the past week.
Agents say the yarding has doubled in number from about 2500 head last week to almost 5000 – and as a result, the sale will have to be split in two.
The sale has drawn for 2900 bullocks, 700 trade cattle and 1100 cows and 65 bulls, which is an unprecedented number for the selling centre.
The Victorian Livestock Exchange (VLE) has announced they will now be selling the bullocks tomorrow (Wednesday) and cows and bulls on Thursday - in an effort to handle the cattle efficiently.
Stock & Land markets reporter Peter Kostos said the high prime offering at Leongatha this week could be put down to a combination of factors, including the rise in bullock prices and the fact that Easter is next week.
