THE HAMILTON saleyards has received a $4.5 million tick-of-approval to modernise the existing sheep yards and build a roof over the facility.
Hamilton livestock agent and board director of the Australian Livestock and Property Agents Association, Warren Clark, said Southern Grampians Shire Council had approved the upgrade plans which were expected to be underway by winter next year and completed within two years.
Selling pen volumes will grow from about 18,000 to more than 28,000 sheep, which Mr Clark said would also see large expansion on the holding pens capacity.
"Pens will be horizontal so presentation will be far better with consistent sized selling pens," Mr Clark said.
"They will be better for buyers to visually see the lambs and it will be smoother to run."
