AN IMPRESSIVE heifer from Anvil Angus will be sold as part of Stock & Land's centenary dinner auction next Friday (July 4).
Anvil stud principal Stephen Handbury, who has donated the animal, said Anvil Malvern Pride J020 will be 16 months-old by the time she is auctioned at the event.
She was chosen by Stock & Land's stud stock advertising manager Garry Rodda from Mr Handbury's entire autumn-drop calves at Acheron.
The heifer has already been artificially inseminated to Boonaroo Gus G15 - and she will be the first progeny by KC Haas GPS to be sold in Australia.
After a trip to the United States with Dale Edwards of High Country Heifers in 2011 to source some top genetics, Mr Handbury said they were lucky to find the heifer's sire at the Ken Haas Angus stud, Wyoming.
At the moment, Anvil Angus has 90 calves on the ground by GPS.
Mr Handbury is anticipating the sons of the bull to be among the top-priced lots at Anvil's sale later in the year - and is excited about the potential of the GPS calves.
"One of big bonuses is the bull's gestation length figures," he said.
"We will have calves on the ground 10 to 14 days ahead of schedule, which means heifers and cows have that extra time to recover before they are joined again."
