SKILLED, eager and competitive, 111 cattle enthusiasts battled it out in the show ring during the Stud Beef Victoria (SBV) Annual Cattle Handler's Camp, held in Bendigo recently.
Established in 1988 by SBV to skill the next generation of stud grooms, this year's high calibre of entrants were aged from eight to 68 years-old and showed a bright future for the industry.
"There is a good appetite for young people to work in the industry so by educating them on preparing their stock for show and sale we are keeping young people in the industry," SBV Cattle Handlers Camp chairman Gary Turnham said.
"People love coming to the camp and we have some veteran 16 year-olds who have been attending since they were eight."
While the camp included skilling participants with the responsibilities of stud grooming, it was in the Handler's Competition where they finessed their talents.
"While the camp focuses on education, the competition is fiercely competed and incredibly strong – we have some very good talent coming through," Mr Turnham said.
