THE Spring Northern sale for Te Mania Angus reached a high of $18,000 and averaged $6727 at Walgett last Tuesday.
That is a $2000 increase on last year's top price of $16,000, and more than $1400 up on the 2014 average.
The stands were full with 42 registered bidders who helped clear all 105 bulls on offer.
The sale fired early, with the first eight lots not dipping below $10,000.
David Reid and Dennis Power, Minnamurra Pastoral Company, Boggabri, NSW, held the winning $18,000 bid for Te Mania Jannali J471.
Topping sales ran in the family, with Jannali J471's full flush brother – Te Mania Jarmyn J575 – making for the $22,000 highest price at Te Mania's March sale in Mortlake.
Jannali J471 was sired by Tuwharetoa Regent D145 and from Te Mania Wargoona E288. Minnamurra Pastoral Company also purchased the second highest priced bull, Te Mania Jink J1164, for $16,000.
The team from Minnamurra purchased 10 bulls in total to average $12,350.
Daryl and Grant Ford, Ford Cattle Company, Tea Gardens, NSW also purchased 10 bulls, to a top of $11,000 for Te Mania Jennings J921.
Mr Ford, who had been attending the sale for four years, was after Tuwharetoa Regent D145 sons, with seven of the bulls he took home by the renowned sire.
"Regents sons are throwing the type of cattle we are after," he said.
The Ford family are aiming to get a line of cattle that will produce good weaners and down the track hope to run more steers and breeding cattle.
"We have a good quality breeding herd, and going off the results we are getting we are going to keep coming back."
Elders livestock agent Anthony Triggs, Goondiwindi, Queensland, was there on behalf of his local clients and purchased 17 bulls.
These clients included Ben Coulton Family Trust; R. and V. Cranny; and Duddy Management Pty Ltd, all of Goondiwindi, NSW.
Ten of the 17 bulls Mr Triggs purchased sold to Duddy Management – topping at $7500.
Grant Davis, Pee Dee Creek, Bellbrook, bought two bulls – he has an all Angus operation and has been using Te Mania bulls for about eight years.
"The steers have excellent growth rates and good marbling," Mr Davis said.
The Te Mania bulls went to properties in South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and NSW.
