Gippsland farmers welcomed widespread rain yesterday, with falls up to 75mm across the region and averaging 50mm.
This followed patchy rain earlier in the week and what can only be described in some parts of Gippsland as a very wet August.
Expectations are for a very good spring.
"Once we get some sun, pasture will jump out of the ground and take off. We're looking at a bumper Spring," said Meerlieu's David Read.
His words were echoed across the district.
At Pakenham store cattle sale yesterday, where rain fell all day on the covered saleyards, local farmers welcomed the rain.
"This is good. We're very dry for this time of year and the ground is so hard, I can drive across my paddock," one farmer told Stock & Land.
There are flood warnings on all rivers and roads were starting to show the signs of heavy deluge last night, with water impeding drivers and bitumen starting to crumble.
Rain continues to fall today.
