NIKKI Georgiou, Clunes, hopes to continue the rejuvenation of the Victorian Young Farmers (VYF) as its new president.
Ms Georgiou, who works as a livestock officer for Elders Rural Services in Ballarat, was elected to head the dynamic social network for young people at its recent annual general meeting.
She takes the reigns from previous VYF president Skye Vermaas, who led the group for two years.
Ms Georgiou said VYF was such a dynamic group of people aged 16-30 years and she was looking forward to working with the executive team to continue to grow and develop the organisation throughout Victoria.
“It’s exciting times; the organisation has such a rich history and over the past four years has experienced new vigour and growth in both new clubs and membership levels. There are currently nine active clubs around the state with interest from another four areas,” she said.
Ms Georgiou grew up in the dairying region of Victoria’s south-west, and held farm positions and did a Department of Primary Industries traineeship in pasture agronomy dairy research.
Her strong links with rural communities continued through her extensive livestock industries experience, which includes having worked as a jillaroo a large Northern Territory cattle station, before returning to Victoria to work with race horses, beef cattle and in the dairy industry.
Since last November, she has worked Elders Rural Services in Ballarat and has a wealth of experience and knowledge to bring to her new role as VYF president.
