ATTENDEES got an introduction into the use of social media in agriculture at a Marcus Oldham College forum, Geelong, today.
Valuable insights were given into the growth of social media within agriculture, and how the industry can benefit from its use.
Blogging farmer Johathan Dyer told of the way social networking provides him with the opportunity to be in contact with a wider audience right across the globe.
Having returned to the family farm after working in IT, Mr Dyer started the hastag 'tweetsfromatractorcab’ to interact with others in the industry during those long hours on the tractor.
Fellow farmer and columnist Sam Trethewey spoke on branding and how the use of social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook, are practical ways for farmer’s or agricultural businesses to get there brands out into the community.
He said positive language and consistency were important aspects in developing your own brand, and that of the industry.
Other speakers included Tom Whitty, VFF, Brad Jenkins, Design Experts, and Tim Gentle, RASV, who spoke on learning how to adapt to, and benefit from, the rapid growth of social media.
