THIS weekend the Royal Melbourne Show kicks-off, with the judging of the sheep breeds, including Merinos this year after an extended hiatus.
Organisers have also introduced a new Wool Day, to help promote the fibre to the masses. While this year, for the first time
in the show’s history, Highland cattle will be the feature beef breed.
The Victorian Highland Breeders Group is seizing this opportunity to showcase the distinctive Scottish breed, including young member Laine Hastie, 10, (pictured) whose father Glen is president of the group.
Fourteen breeders from across the country will exhibit the long-haired, long-horned cattle and Scottish judge Cameron Ormiston will put the “royal” into Royal Melbourne Show as he takes a break from his duties as Queen Elizabeth II’s herdsman at Balmoral Castle to preside over the feature showcase.
